Skin boosters

SKIN BOOSTER INFORMATION

What are skin boosters?

A skin booster is a liquid containing hyaluronic acid and amino acids. There are many types of skin boosters available; a fine skin booster is a soft product good for treatments around the eyes and lips. A thick skin booster is a slightly thicker product good for treatments in the lower and mid face, neck, decolletage and hands. Skin boosters are injected superficial in the skin using a needle or a cannula. They are used for deep hydration.

What do skin boosters treat?

When we age, we lose the elasticity in our skin, our cellular turnover is slower, and collagen and elastin fibres deplete. This causes thinning of the skin, skin laxity and fine lines and wrinkles. A skin booster is used to treat skin laxity and fine lines and wrinkles by increasing collagen and elastin fibres and hyaluronic acid levels. Skin boosters can also treat dark circles by thickening the thinning under eye skin and can also boost complexion and add hydration to dry skin. Skin boosters will not treat lines that are caused by repetitive muscle movement (this would require botulinum toxin) or facial volume loss (this would require dermal fillers).

How long do skin boosters last?

Skin boosters require a series of treatments 24 treatments - 2-4 weeks apart) for full effect and once a course of treatments is completed, results should last 6-12 months. It is important to time your skin booster treatment correctly around any special occasions coming up and take into consideration the amount of time it takes to complete a course of treatments, the downtime involved and aftercare instructions that need to be followed. You can enhance the life of a skin booster treatment by avoiding the use of sunbeds and use medical grade skincare products. It is important to have realistic expectations with what skin boosters can improve.

Are the any risks to skin booster treatments?

YES! There are potential risks associated with skin boosters. For this reason, a skin booster treatment should only be carried out by a trained, regulated, and registered professional. Swelling, lumps and bumps can last around 2 weeks and bruising is to be expected with injections. After two weeks any inflammatory response should have subsided, and the product will be integrated into the skin. The inflammatory response is unavoidable and is a natural part of the immune system. Be truthful on your medical history questionnaire as skin booster treatments do have contraindications and it may not be safe to treat you.

How much do skin boosters cost?

Sate and legal skin booster products from registered pharmacies are classed as a medical device and come at a premium cost. Prices start at £300 for a full course of treatment

What are the aftercare instructions after skin booster treatments?

It is extremely important not to do any activities that will cause a rise in blood pressure for the following 48 hours after treatment as this will increase swelling and bruising, things such as extreme heat and exercise.

Avoiding alcohol for at least 24 hours before and after treatment can avoid extreme bruising. Ibuprofen and caffeine can also higher the risk of bruising, so this is best avoided for 24 hours also. Do not apply make-up or touch the treated area for 8 hours as this can lead to infection.
